Live Chicken (dressed) — how much, and how to cook it
How much to order
A 1kg live bird gives roughly 600–700g dressed, which feeds three to four. If you are cooking for six, take the 1.5kg.
Cooking it
A dressed bird is best treated as two dishes. The breast wants a short, hot cook; the legs and thighs want a slow one. Jointing it and cooking the pieces separately gives a far better result than roasting the lot and hoping. Keep the carcass — an hour of simmering makes a stock worth more than the meat.
Keeping it fresh
Everything is cut after you order and delivered chilled, never frozen — so the clock starts when it reaches your door, not when it left a warehouse. Refrigerate it straight away and use it within two days, or freeze it the same day it arrives.
Live Chicken (dressed) — FAQs
How much do I actually get after cutting?
A 1kg live bird comes to roughly 600–700g dressed. We show the range on the page rather than a flattering single number, because it genuinely varies with the bird.
Can I see it weighed?
Yes. Live weight is taken in front of you and that is the weight you are charged on, before any cutting.
Can you cut it into curry pieces?
Yes — say so when you order and we dress it, joint it and cut it however you like at no extra charge.
